Tales from the Borderlands Episode 5: The Vault of the Traveler (2015) MicroReview

Tales from the Borderlands series goes out with a bang… several bangs in fact. From a screenwriter’s perspective there are way too many false endings here, but after everything the series has been through I didn’t mind the indulgence. Even if choices don’t ultimately feel like they make that big a difference on the game’s story, the way it has you answer for your decisions still feels very satisfying. The comedy writing is on-point as always, and this series’ ability to tug at the heartstrings is once again a pleasant surprise. Editing and sound design are still problematic, exacerbated by the sheer scale and weight of the climactic scenes they’re failing, but if you can get past those issues this episode packs quite a punch. Solidifies the series as a must-play.
